Duffel Bags for Active Kids

With school started and team practices underway, kids across the country are gearing up for long days on the field and plenty of team travel. So to keep your kids’ sports gear organized and at the ready, you’ll need to give them separate bags for their school supplies and their sports equipment. But let’s face it – with kids and teens, not just “any” bags will do. So I’ve once again polled the kids in my life to get their takes on the best sports bags to take them from home to the field looking good.

  • The teenage boy: adidas Diablo Duffel Medium. He plays football in the fall and runs track in the spring – and this bag gives my 15-year-old nephew all the room he needs for both sports.
  • The teenage girl: adidas Ultimate Rendezvous Duffel II. With longer handles, this rugged bag is a little bit more feminine than most sports duffles, but it’s durable enough for my 17-year-old niece to cart her soccer supplies to the field season after season. And now that she’s touring colleges all over the country, it’s also turning into a great overnight bag.
  • The tween boy: Ogio Sliver Golf Stand Bag. My 12-year-old nephew is really into golf lately, and since his school started a golf team last year, he’s had to cart his clubs with him to school a few times a week. This lightweight bag doesn’t weigh him down – and gives him all the room he needs for an afternoon round.
  • The tween girl: adidas Diablo Duffel Small. A long-time gymnast, my 11-year-old niece relies on this bag to carry her leotards, chalk and warm-up suit and braces with her to the gym after school most days of the week. And
  • The grade-school girl: Amaro Jay Messenger 12.5″ Bag. Small enough for her to carry on her own, but roomy enough for her ballet and hip-hop dance gear, this black and red bag is one my 6-year-old niece uses just about every day.
