Whether you live in a small home and need multi-taskers to save on space or you’re simply trying to reduce and reuse, one way you can do both is by buying bags that can take you from the grocery store to your next vacation, then to a picnic in the park and beyond.
I have to say that I’m a huge fan of multi-tasking bags. In fact, I about five of them. That’s because I use them for groceries, at the farmer’s market, on picnics, road trips and to cart things to potlucks. I know that five bags might sound like a lot, but they all get their fair share of use – and often all at once. In fact, to ensure that they get maximum use, I keep my bags in my car so I’m never in a position where I have to use a grocery store bag that’s not recyclable in my area.
Some bags that may work for you like my collection has worked for me, include:
TIMBUK2 Cargo Tote Bag. Perfectly sized for a odds and ends at the grocery store or your weekly veggie run to the farmer’s market, this rugged bag is also an excellent choice for picnics or bringing in bagels and cream cheese into the office for your co-workers.
Clava Nantucket Tote Bag. Primarily used for weekend getaways, I bought this bag for its big, cavernous interior. But given how much I love it and how little I travel lately, I’ve started using this bag for carting my clothes to the gym, and carrying home my dry groceries. I know it’s not a traditional use for such a beautiful bag, but it really is a great multi-tasker.
Baggallini Zip-Out Shopping Bagg. Made of lightweight, ripstop nylon, this bag folds up in a snap and won’t take up much room in your purse. It’s the perfect bag to pack groceries in or toss in your suitcase and use to cart home souvenirs from some exotic locale.
Mountainsmith Cooler Cube. Because this big bag is totally insulated, you can use it when you run across town for meats, cheeses and ice creams, head to the mountains for a picnic of sandwiches and potato salad, or take hot or cold dishes to a potluck.
